One of the truly loveliest resorts I have ever stayed at around the world is the Sheraton Fiji Golf & Beach Resort.
I have been travelling to Fiji for both work and leisure for many, many years now and you know when you find a hotel or resort that you just want to come back to time and time again – well for me, this is one of those resorts.
Located 25 minutes from Nadi International Airport in the area of Denarau Island and part of the Marriott Bonvoy International group of hotels and resorts – the Sheraton Fiji Resort has it all and more.
A luxury resort with all its elegance yet with such sincere, loving hospitality it has that sense of ‘coming home’.
That’s how I feel each time I arrive back there.
Upon arrival, I was greeted with the familiar drum roll and ‘Bula’ (Fijian Welcome) from the Bell Desk staff.
The reception area is to the right side of the vast, open plan style lobby area equipped with so many seating options and relaxation areas that you already feel like you have ‘arrived’.
My check in as always was swift. I attached my Marriott Bonvoy member number to my reservation which I find always makes check in so much more streamlined. If you haven’t as yet, I always recommend signing up to Marriott Bonvoy as the benefits you receive as you start to gain points and become an elite member are so worthwhile – contact me if you have any questions about the Marriott Bonvoy program.
During check in I was offered a glass of champagne (showcased on the cute Marriott Bonvoy cart in front of reception) which really gets you into holiday mode, even if you are travelling there for work. Other options are Apple Juice and Bottles of Fiji Water to help quench your thirst.
As a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum member, I was upgraded to a Large Oceanfront King Room and late check out of 4.00pm. I also had the Full Buffet Breakfast included during my stay.
I was in room 1270 – located on the top level (there are only 2 levels – ground floor and top floor) in a corner large direct oceanfront king room.
As I entered my room, the wooden ledge and desk spread almost the length of the room. Heaps of space to place luggage, handbags, shoes, etc as well as the desk with ample space for all my work stuff. Power points and USB ports are located in various places in the room and at the desk so it’s great if you are there for work or need to plug in multiple devices.
My room also comprised of a plush king sized bed, TV, sofa with cushions, round table, a buffet with all the tea and coffee amenities, 4 bottles of complimentary water and the wardrobe with iron, ironing board, a safe and my favourite – the plush Sheraton Hotel Dressing Gowns!
The bathroom had lots of light, very spacious, all the amenities you could possibly imagine. A separate corner shower and a large bath. Perfect!
The swimming pool sprawls through the resort with the ‘kids pool’ on one side and then next to it the main pool area with a swim up bar, and loads of banana lounges to relax in between swims.
The sun sets directly in front of the entire hotel so whether you are lounging on your balcony, in the pool having a swim or at the hotel’s bar – you will not miss sunset.
And sunset happens to be my favourite time at the resort. At 6:00pm every evening is the Dance Show followed by the Fire Dancers performing a nightly fire show at sunset.
For the family traveller, opposite the Kids Pool is the Kids Club. Open from 8:00am to 8:00pm these fantastic facilities are open to all kids staying at the resort. It costs FJD$6.00 per hour per child and this includes all the activities that are offered every hour plus there are heaps of toys, books and a movie in the background.
However, if you are looking for that quiet or romantic escape, on the other side of the bar (and far away from the kids section) is the Adults Only ‘Quiet Area’ with banana lounges, comfy chairs and an adults only pool. It looks directly out to the ocean and is a very tranquil part of the resort.
As for the foodies, the Sheraton Fiji Resort has it all. The Full Buffet Breakfast is an absolute feast with foods from all over the world, Café 28g in the lobby area has Fiji’s best Baristas serving barista made coffees to perfection, the bar has a fantastic array of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and for the dinner you can have the full buffet dinner with a different theme each night or if you prefer a la carte, the 5 star restaurant prepares everything to perfection – 5 star dining with the sand under your feet.
If you love a workout as much as I do then the gym and private swimming pool facilities for the Sheraton Fiji Resort are actually located at the neighbouring Westin Hotel Resort and Spa. It is about a 5 minute walk from the Sheraton Fiji Resort. The gym machines and equipment and new, fresh and it is a lovely place to spend a couple of hours, do a workout and go for a refreshing dip in the pool afterwards.
However, I think my absolute favourite things about this resort are watching the nightly Fijian Sunsets as each night is a painting in the sky worth a thousand words, yet no words can truly describe the true beauty of this special place.
I also cannot finish without mentioning the staff at the Sheraton. I have been going there for so long now and know most of the staff by name (and they know me) but their true warmth and kindness goes so much further than the normal professionalism of hotel staff. They really treat you like family.
